How to make a floor plan
THE FLOORPLANBOT GUIDE
1. Start with the outside dimensions
Measure the full width and length of the space. Record the units and which wall each measurement belongs to. A photograph alone does not establish a reliable scale.
2. Mark the fixed elements
Locate entrances, windows, stairs and existing services before arranging the rooms. For an existing building, check your sketch against on-site measurements.
3. Give every room a purpose
List the rooms you need and their approximate size. Keep circulation space between them. Open an editable template for a first schematic, or describe your requirements in the generator workspace.
4. Check the layout
Follow a route from the entrance to each room. Consider doors, furniture clearance and daylight. Review numbers against the original measurements instead of relying on the appearance of the drawing.
5. Label and share
Use the floor plan editor to label rooms and add measurement notes. PNG and PDF suit sharing; DXF carries the schematic template linework into CAD. A concept layout still needs qualified review before construction.
